I put “Reddit employee” in quotation marks because they’re giving the vibe that they’re praising that website so much.
OP made a follow up post:
Almost a week here in lemmy and I still don’t know how instances work?
But they haven’t commented here or there even once.
Hello mate, how are you? 👋🏽
They are commenting in this thread. Either way, what’s your point?
ah, yes because as we all know, reddit is known for its very intelligent conversation
You can post a wholesome post on Reddit and someone will come along being hostile, but then the people will down vote them to oblivion which never fails to make me laugh. I’m perma banned on Reddit for something I don’t remember but I’m pretty sure what I’ve said wasn’t even all mean just pointed out a flaw or something like that 😅
but you’re here now and that’s all that matters, glad you made it 😊
what a poppy dumdum
Man, I could go for some poppadoms right about now
It’s really dependent on your instance as well. Lemmy is not homogenous.
I do imagine the comments listed on a YouTube video about gardening have to be different than those in a video about the Philadelphia Eagles. But that’s just because it’s the city of brotherly love, and those gardeners are fucking vicious.
Meanwhile in a post far far away…
Oh no I’m reading the news too much because I read that as Pedophilia Eagles. Ya’know, the fightin’ Epsteins. Yes, very different comments indeed.
I have a Venn diagram overlap for you
Gotta love when your coach tells the team you are a flower that hasn’t bloomed yet.
You’re like this flower here, you’ll bloom someday and smell much better than you do in this locker room I hope.
He was raked over the coals for these comments at the time, but since then the Eagles have been to two Super Bowls. Considering the dog walking they gave to a dynasty this past SB, I think it’s safe to say they’ve bloomed!
Hehe, homogenous. Sorry for late reply.
It’s the internet. Some people are helpful and some people are dicks. It’s just the way it is.
Clearly not for this guy, thinks that Lemmy is the only one out there that is toxic in their opinion 😂
I agree with this 100%. The quality of posts here is abysmal.
You know, you could try and change that by posting things yourself. Be the change you want to see.
(Why is it always the ones that don’t post complaining about the quality of posts?)
Stop making abysmal posts then?
Comments, too 😉
I actually meant to say comments and community, not posts. However the post quality is also bad, yea.
Isn’t that everywhere? Not just here in Lemmy
Sorry for the late reply.
Lemmy is especially toxic from what I’ve noticed.
Can you give me an example? I haven’t really encountered any toxicity here yet, probably been called out once but it wasn’t that bad.
I’d say that’s not true. Sure a lot of crap here is reposed lazy grabs from elsewhere, but there is plenty of quality OC. In general, I also find Lemmy to be way less toxic and censorship heavy.
Welcome to the online world, kid.
Also, I’m pretty sure lemme skews much older than 12. It’s 40+ year olds calling you names.
The only real problem with lemme is that it’s not big enough to replace most niche communities on larger platforms. If I have a specific question about a hobby, video game, or whatever, I’m not using lemme. I hope to someday.
It’s 40+ year olds calling you names.
That always makes it a bit worse. When I see ignorant comments on other sites, I usually tell myself it might be made by an edgy teenager. Can’t do that on Lemmy. That’s a grown adult praising North Korea…
Tankies stop mental development around age 12. So it’s hard to say how old they physically are.
That’s a grown adult praising North Korea…
And I’m an even growner adult calling that one names!
Seriously though, you can never be 100% sure. And I’m trying not to be agist - even to myself.
I mean, North Korea itself is literally run by grown adults.
maybe this is why I have lost all faith in humanity recently…
What specific hobbies do you hope to peruse here?
I miss the machinist subreddit quite a bit. There are some communities here, but they’re not very active. I’d post, but I don’t do enough machining right now to really generate much content.
I’m permanently banned from Reddit because I somewhat pointed out a flaw in about Stardew Valley gameplay wise :( sorry for the late reply.
It’s been the absolute opposite for me
Same here. Probably that poster is lying and has an agenda. Wouldn’t surprise me if Reddit was running anti-Lemmy bots.
Same here to be honest, from what I’m experiencing now since I’ve joined is nothing but a mix of helpful and funny responses, mostly helpful and have yet to see mean response.
you smell like cabbage farts.
Well that was mean
Good to see you here!
<3 Good to be here
Sounds like maybe they chose Hexbear as their instance. I haven’t seen nearly that much toxicity on Lemmy, except from hexbear users (before defederation).
I don’t know what hex is, but at this point I don’t wanna know 😅 apologies for the late reply
Framing them as an employee is bad faith. And misleading.
That’s not my experience. Did they go to a right-wing or ML instance?
That makes sense actually, this is a reddit employee, after all.
What’s the bet they’re actually just stepping out of an echo chamber for the first time and can’t hack being told their opinions are shit
I mean, depending on which instance they joined they could’ve just as easily stepped into an even smaller echo chamber. Lemmy as a concept isn’t magically free from them.
Yes, but also no. I could have an account on hexbear and still see things from lots of other places. The beauty of federation is that it’s a lot harder to quash dissent from an administrative level.
Maybe only read Local and was a bad fit for the server. You know, any sane server.
I’d pish if they leapt from reddit to hexbear
You can’t even post a youtube link on there without a socialist bot scolding you for not instead using some janky commie tube alternative.
Lemmy has a ton of echo chambers. It’s a real problem.
Yeah, but the problem isn’t inherent to a platform. It’s inherent to humanity.
