I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.
Anarchist/libsoc. If we’re stuck with a government, it should use its taxes for healthcare and education, not murdering.
In a way, he did. Star Trek helped to break the racial barriers of 1960’s America, and inspired a generation of scientists and engineers to invent things that we use commonly today.
There was an entire generation of people who saw what Star Trek brought to the TV screen, and wanted to bring it into reality. Gene saw thousands of fans were inspired to become a better person because of an idea he had one day.
People saw an interracial kiss on screen for the first time. Some were outraged, most didn’t see a problem. Some saw a Japanese person working equally with white crewmen while Japanese-Americans still were treated like garbage and had their possessions still stripped from them.
Roddenberry intended the show to have a progressive political agenda reflective of the emerging counter-culture of the youth movement, though he was not fully forthcoming to the networks about this. He wanted Star Trek to show what humanity might develop into, if it would learn from the lessons of the past, most specifically by ending violence. An extreme example is the alien species known as the Vulcans, who had a violent past but learned to control their emotions. Roddenberry also gave Star Trek an anti-war message and depicted the United Federation of Planets as an ideal, optimistic version of the United Nations.[15] His efforts were opposed by the network because of concerns over marketability, e.g., they opposed Roddenberry’s insistence that Enterprise have a racially diverse crew.[16]
Gene didn’t live to see a post-scarcity, no violence, bigotry free society, but he inspired people to achieve it. Gene died happy with knowing he sparked an entire idea into action, some day in the future.
In the canon of Star Trek, humanity had a series of eugenics wars, wars for resources, and then capped it off with a World War 3 where the Geneva conventions were scrapped with nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons used by every world power.
The mess was still being cleaned up and the effects of hundreds of millions dead is when people went “Why did we ever hate each other? What did some dude in the African Union do to piss off some dude in the European Alliance, that pissed off some dude in China?”
And then when Zefram Cochrane used the Phoenix to test warp flight, everyone truly went “…Holy shit, we’re not alone. We can fix this for everyone.”
Yep. Maybe whenever we’re allowed elections again we’ll have a candidate with polices that people like. Thanks Harris!
Data? In an argument with a data denial weirdo? Good luck on convincing this weirdo.
So when the media is against you, people see it as a bad candidate, and don’t vote. Even when he was never a monster, but Trump got more air time saying “Mexicans bring rape”.
The recent election and 2016 say otherwise. When Biden said he’d follow Sanders’ policies, he won the biggest margins ever in American history.
Fascism is tempting for undecideds and people scared of the future. Some dude says “hey you’re hurt, I’ll help you” you might not care what the costs are as long as you feel safer.
We could have built a policy of “Everyone is hurt, everyone needs a leader, I can be a leader for those Trump is targeting.” She could have been a silver bullet to Trump’s thick skull. She could have done so many things differently than Biden or Trump, and she played to the middle ground.
And the middle ground was still pro-border protections, fracking, not listening to the marginalized people Trump hates, and how the policies could improve America at the cost of the trolley problem of Gaza. Instead we’re getting none of her promises, but Trump is getting all of his high demands for order and fascism.
He’s a sitting duck, nothing bad will happen if he just goes “Alright, I’m king for the next 3 months. Here’s some more polices things for Americans, free gun training and a copy of the Improvised Munitions book included.”
He could just… legalize pot, give Americans money, and have Trump taken care of. “but muh rule of law!!! what president would that set for the next dude who’s going to do it anyways?”
All these sources of intentional corruption against someone running to improve the lives of all Americans and not just a select few, and you just go “Hmm, but he was losing according to the media that lied to us, so he lost fair and square.”
When you figure out that the United States was established by wealthy white males who owned slaves, had a revolution due to “no taxation without representation” but then purposefully ignored to repent the 99% until major reforms over the years, it makes sense.
The first set presidential elections were only voted by a handful of Americans. Not the women. Not the slaves. Not the natives who were here first. The landowning white men.
When we claimed England is a tyranny but abolished slavery and gave universal aufferage before we did, I think we lost that argument. America was built by out of touch white men, and it has always been ran by out of touch white men.
YOU FREED THE WHAT?!
She had excitement and energy, then said she’d do nothing different than Biden. Lost a lot of energy. Got Time Waltz, more energy, and then the party told him “stop calling Vance weird” and we lost more energy.
She had a better shot at talking trump, she just loved to shoot herself in the foot.
Russia and China have nothing in power compared to the genuine pure stupidity of Americans. Decades of brainwashing a populous will get you further than invading it from the outside.
Chrome has been for years, so this is only a worse problem for end users.
“Sounds like the problem is federal law pushed by Congressmen paid for by corporate lobbyists, not the federal government.”
THEY DESERVED IT FOR NOT TRADING ME THEIR SCRAP METAL
That’s how I do it. Mainly YouTube and the eMails. But some of the bands I most listen to are more indie/obscure, so they play to their fans more than people on the level of Metalica and Taylor Swift.
Vegans are more “consent” than focusing on the consumption.
Vegetarians eat honey and drink milk. Vegans don’t as they don’t feel that animals can consent to the actions being taken place on their body. It’s basically a form of “Can this animal agree to what is taking place?” question. If they can’t even answer a yes or no, then it’s a form of abuse.
Like how we consider that animals can’t consent to sexual acts. It’s wrong because we exert a force to them that they can’t even disagree with. Bestiality is obviously wrong, and I don’t think you’d find a lot of people who would disagree except those who perform it. But it’s weird that we view the killing and eating of them as normalized.
And I am saying this as someone who consumes meat. I fully acknowledge I am complicit, I just don’t defend my actions.
Fucking awesome. Onion has been hitting it hard lately, and this is just the cherry on top. I am hopeful this makes some chuds question their minds.
