  • You’re right that leaving is your best bet. That isn’t a reality for millions of queer people, however. Leaving isn’t always feasible, or many of the queer people still in deep red states would already be gone.

It’s time for us to make moves to prepare ourselves to contend with this administration and political agenda. Networks need to be made, connections between suppliers of DIY hormones and communities at risk of losing Healthcare need to be established.

As much as we need to help people get out, we also need to confront the fact that not everyone can, and this is the reality we live in now. I’m just saying, “Get out while you still can” isn’t enough. We need to ready ourselves for a much more long-term fight against this system. Everyone who can should be getting involved.

  • You seem to be a bit confused about what exactly capitalism is. Capitalism is the ideology of private ownership, specifically with regards to the means of production. It is contrasted with socialism, which is the ideology of public ownership of the means of production.

Capitalism is the ideology that allows for someone to own a factory, for example. It allows for them to possess it, in some nebulous way, and to therefore be entitled to the fruits of labor produced there. Even if they themselves did not work to produce those products. Capitalism is the ideology of private wealth accumulation and the ideology of class. It is the ideology of wealth inequality (as opposed to wealth equality where capital is shared equally among all). It is the ideology that creates markets out of supply and demand, specifically designed to collect as much capital as possible from people seeking products. Capitalism is protected by the state, which creates justifications for its existence and prevents the working class from uprising against capitalists. The state colludes with capitalists. They exchange political power for capitalists’ labor power. In this way, any party that is not explicitly anti-capitalist is necessarily pro-capitalist. To allow capitalism to exist is to protect it. In this way, capitalism is not just private ownership itself, but it is also the politics that protects such ownership and the states that choose to allow it.

Contrasted with socialism, the ideology of public ownership. Socialism is the classless ideology. Socialism is social welfare, including ideas like social assistance or UBI. Socialism allows for means of production, like factories, to be publicly and equally owned by all. It allows the fruits of labor produced in those factories to be shared by all. Like capitalism, socialism produces its own political ideologies. Socialism as a state of being requires some form of protection (much of the debate on the left can essentially be seen as “how should we protect an established state of socialism?”). As socialism is classless, and as its production is communal, it is open to encroachment by capitalists who will seek to establish private ownership and markets there. Most agree, some state or state-like entity must be established to protect the socialist society. In this way, any politics that are explicitly anti-capitalist must be socialist.

I dont think voting itself is harmful on it’s own, no. I do understand why Palestinian Americans will not vote for people committing acts of genocide against them. And more to the point, I just recognize that this is a death spiral of western democracy right? The Democratic party is unwilling to do literally anything that would interrupt the neoliberal status quo of America. This aligns them with conservatives. They fight back against workers rights and protect the military industrial complex. The Democratic party has done shockingly little to ever actually fight back against Trumpism and modern fascists in America. They could have done significantly more, but many of those actions would jeaopardize american neoliberalism. It’s their priority to preserve it.

What I’m saying is, even if Kamala wins, we will be back here in 4 more years. Each time losing more ground to fascists because elected officials will do little more than token gestures to stop them. I hope she is elected, and I hope I’m wrong and she does an aboutface and codifies reproduction rights, codifies queer rights, and dismantles the supreme court and the electoral college. Biden could have done these things too.

They’ve already murdered in large excess of 50 thousand people, likely over a hundred thousand when accounting for missing and undocumented deaths. Nearly a year ago they opened machine gun fire on a crowd of people trying to get flour. It’s been a genocide this entire time. He has not stopped military aid. Kamala herself has literally said,

“I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorist militias. My commitment to the security of Israel is unwavering,” “When we think about the threat that Hamas, Hezbollah… Iran present, I think that it is without any question, our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against those kinds of attacks,”

She is open about the fact that there do not exist any circumstances where she will stop funding the IDF and the actions of the IDF. Israel has claimed to be “defending itself” for the past year. The Palestinian genocide is what they mean by defending themselves.

I’m trans too. I am horrifically afraid of what a fascist American government can and would do to us. This entire election cycle has been a literal nightmare. We can’t just pretend reality is different though, we can’t just pretend that the Democratic party have not themselves been active participants in the genocide of a colonized ethnicity in the middle east. It’s depressing but it’s the truth. They’ve blocked the ICJ from taking action, they’ve blocked UN motions to take action, they’ve consistently worked against recognizing the state of Palestine, and they have funded and armed a genocide.

Well, except for all the ways that voting is broken and doesn’t work. Gerrymandering and the electoral college and what not. And how your options are conservative neoliberal genocide supporter or outright neo fascist.

You couldn’t vote for an actual progressive candidate if you wanted to. The entire American political system is designed to prevent that exact thing from happening.

  • This question fascinates me. Because I don’t know that there’s any proper way to argue for or against it. It’s referring to the subjective experience of consciousness in some kind of continuum, like if we were observers watching a television screen and when we die, the TV is turned off and we’re still there just now we’re staring at nothing.

I think the problem comes from a misunderstanding of self identity. A failure to recognize that our self identity is itself a byproduct of the structure of our brains. That from the outside looking in we’re just a bunch of molecules and chemical reactions. If you were replaced by a perfect clone right now, I would be none the wiser. You wouldn’t be any the wiser either. You definitionally couldn’t be.

It’s hard to conceive of, but also not hard at all. We’re not an observer of our experiences we are our experiences. Like we are physically made up of our memories and personalities and knowledge. If your brain was copied wholesale and reconstructed somewhere else, then your experience would be that you had appeared somewhere else.

  • They have released a guide on making a CLR (basically several different pieces of lab equipment controlled to automate some of the process) and software to run on it to assist in the process of making the medications. Specifically to try and improve consistency of the medications produced.

It’s a really great cause. Worth reading the article. If someone had to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars cost to access life-saving medication, and they couldn’t afford it, something like this could legitimately save their life.

  • True. A lot of drugs you can perform tests on. But there is an inherent risk. I don’t think making medicine at home is going to be many people’s first choice. I think the people most likely to pursue this are those for whom obtaining medication other ways is not possible. When the government makes it impossible for someone to obtain health care, either due to literally making it illegal or by allowing it to become completely unaffordable for working class people, then they have to resort to other options.

With patience and diligent work it is possible to make many medications with (by comparison) significantly cheaper resources. And if someone were to do this, presumably, there are others who also have similar needs for the medications being produced. Which is how community medicine networks are formed. DIY Hormone replacement medications for trans people living in places where it’s illegal for them to access medication, or otherwise extremely difficult often access medicines made through networks like that.

This isn’t really a new thing, but the ease of access to documentation on how to do it certainly is new.

KolibriOS, arguably the smallest modern GUI OS at 1.44MB, could be encoded on ~142 of them. I shouldn’t find that interesting but I do. MikeOS, which is an operating system used to teach about OS design, could fit on ~74.

Making this a very dumb very impractical but nonetheless legitimately viable method for non-electromagnetic OS storage.

  • It’s possible that I’m reading it differently, but I see the reasons being portrayed not as invalid in and of themselves, but rather as being weak attempts at excusing their own actual motivations for playing as girls and women.

I also didn’t play as female characters because of their clothing options or their appearance being more aesthetically appealing. It was in fact because I wanted to be perceived and acknowledged as a girl and that was the closest it was permissible for me to get. I definitely expressed excuses at times for it as well. I think this is actually a very common experience for transfeminine people. Not universal, nor does it mean those things have any innate value.
