I generally won’t say anything if I don’t enjoy a person’s posting, but since you asked, I will tell you my issues that I see. I tried to find some examples of things, but it looks like some of your content has been removed…
The first notice I had of you was something along the lines of you saying “hey fellow clits, how can I turn this place into Reddit?” People asked you to tone it down, and you did not.
The next day or so, I swear I saw you post that you were a guy. You were still being very exuberant, trying to learn how to take over abandoned communities, create copies of Reddit subs, and so on.
Now everyday, I see your posts everywhere, pushing down stuff from other regular posters. Your posts are all over the place in tone and topic. You have potentially serious things, edgelord stuff, and just random conversation things.
You’ve shown up out of nowhere, you start dominating people’s feeds, while not being respectful of the vibe of the place, trying to turn it into something we left behind, and constantly ignoring everyone’s polite feedback. You don’t present an honest persona, you don’t respect the communities we’ve built, and in some ways are actively sabotaging our work by trying to make this Reddit, in content and hyperactive in-your-face vibe.
Take a step back for a second. Browse Lemmy without posting or commenting and see how we work here. It’s a close community because it’s small and many of us are familiar with each other from building this place up the last year or so. We are very welcoming, but when you meet someone for the first time, you don’t barge in the house and act like you own the place.
I hope that makes some sense and you can appreciate some constructive criticism. I almost blocked you day 1, but you don’t seem malicious, just really bad at reading social cues.
Thats probably my only interaction with socail media is Reddit and lemmyworld. Yes I am a woman by the way. And I think being a woman I can say no to be a clit because I don’t have a dick. And am trying for more people to use it. I was told in no specific terms that to make a community active you have to post. And I would be lying if I said I did not want this instance to take over reddit. So when when a person searches for reddit alts the first thing they see is lemmy.world.
Fair enough. I was actually on your side of the dick/clit post as I agreed with your argument for using it, though it was not the way I’d choose to introduce myself or recommend anyone else to…
While we want this to be a growing and vibrant place, we also enjoy it being more chill than other spots. I just have a hard time trying to imagine someone as hyper in real life as your post and comment counts make you seem here. It’s like someone in a manic phase. For me, it’s just too much.
If it’s your genuine personality, I don’t want to crap on it, some people I’m sure enjoy it, but when my feed becomes the Don_Dickle Show instead of a nice blend of things from a variety of people, it makes me go do something else. I’d have no issue with a few posts a day and plenty of comments, but I don’t care who it is, no one person should dominate the feed, especially if they’re getting fairly downvoted. You may not be breaking rules or anything to get banned, but as I implied with my previous comment, you could benefit from learning who the audience here is a bit better and I think you’d have more success.
I wish you luck figuring it out, and I don’t want you to be banned or for you to have a bad time, but just remember to keep everyone else’s good time here in mind as well. ☺️
Point taken but ever since I have been on welbruton and working at a slow hospital my mind just races and reads alot of stuff. And I can’t help think that other people need the knowledge I learned too. But I will calm it down.
Well I appreciate you listening and I’m glad I talked to you. I want to see everyone enjoying themselves here, and there’s room for everyone here as long as they are respectful of others. I wish you luck crafting your online persona!
I’ll be blunt, I’m very conflicted about your posts. I’m not a mod here, but I do admin my own instance.
So first, I love how entusiastic you are, and how you’re embracing the fediverse. What makes me nervous about your posts are that some are on the edge, and personally, for my instance, it’s not for me. I’m trying to create a pretty welcoming space, and some posts go against that. That doesn’t mean those posts don’t have a place, but I think what I’m trying to say is know your audience. There’s definitely communities on Lemmy on other instances that like those sort of posts, but on LW I’ve found it to be very casual.
So maybe find a common ground, either multiple accounts that are spread across a couple different instances based on your preferences, or maybe find an instance that has some shared federations with LW and some that are a bit more your style too. I definitely don’t want to shun you away, but I also wouldn’t like to see you banned either with how much you’re enjoying it.
I hope this helps! Cheers!
Stop being disingenuous. Nearly every question I’ve seen you ask is bullshit begging the question crap. You know exactly why you’ve been shut down.
Seems a little too interested in certain subjects, gets banned from multiple places on multiple instances for trolling, has multiple people explain this to them, still asks the same question repeatedly.
Looks like they are trying to make a ‘name’ for themselves. Goal achieved, probably not quite as intended unfortunately.
Just another addition to the blocked list I suppose.
Bro has my year old account in 3 weeks. I had no idea who you were on reddit (since you say you’re banned there) but looking at your posts I assume this post is because you’re getting “are you a bot” comments that you complain about elsewhere. (I’m gonna exclude news posts because cross posting news articles is pretty fair game)
And tbh yeah dude. “I have a slow job” my brother in Christ you have 50 posts in 12 hours. You’re posting every 15 minutes, plus comments for half a day right there. This is Lemmy. We have so much less content per hour than reddit that, at time of writing, you show up in everyone’s Top 6H, 12H and Day. A dozen of those are “today I learned” - it’s a little disingenuous. You’re just compulsively posting to post at that point and that’s a reddit-ism. Let it die friend. We left reddit in the Rexodus because posters like that are exhausting. We have come here to get the slower feed of homegrown original content so you’re getting heat.
The flip side is if you’re gonna be this active, own it. You’re gonna get bot comments (assuming you’re not). And yes you’re gonna get those comments if you’re consistently in the Top 6 Hour. We’re not Reddit - There aren’t a thousand subs and a thousand power posters competing for visibility and competing for front page. You’re in the select minority here of power posters. Like Flying Squid and Picard Maneuver have done - you gotta roll with it. Be personable and customer-service levels of friendly. “Haha yeah I do post a lot! Good to see you here too!”
Maybe I’m wrong in my observation but you’re following rules, your biggest weakness is in comment interactions when someone comments about your extreme posting. You react very negatively to being called out, but we’re so slow on Front Page content you’re gonna get these call outs. Gonna have to sit and figure out which half of that you are, personally, and make peace with the other half.
Post because you’re curious or share something interesting. Even it is a niche, that’s okay of you post it inside that niche. Don’t post for the attention, or look like you are. There are only around a hundred people on at any given time and a concentrated group within that are always or near always on. This is not reddit in size or scope. Treat this place about like a large class in school, maybe a lunch room full at most.
Look at what others do successfully and emulate it. If you get different results, you still haven’t figured out what they are doing in practice.
Not really a support question, but just making sure your contributions fit within the local rules, always found in the sidebar for the community, should be plenty. Usually, anyway, some instances can be a little more controlling than others. LW is pretty laid back though.
I don’t think people really mind that you’re very active. Personally I was happy to see you bringing the AskHistorians community back to life a little bit.
