This is a comic in technical terms, but also political propaganda. I am not sure this type of content belongs in this community, regardless of which “side” the comic defends or attacks.

There are many IDF soldiers with the American nationality in your list so your argument fails. But israeli Olympians have also been directly signing the bombs used for the Genocide in Gaza.

Yes, I’ve seen video of Jews Americans in Israel occupying a house stolen from a Palestinian family.

I think there’s more than one… One with a crowd yelling at a man behind a garden gate. One where a man is trying to give the Palestinian milk from his own fridge (that’s still in the house)… But they’re both outside on the street when this happens.

I imagine there are news articles about such videos and cases.

I am asking sincere questions. If you have a list of names that answers my question, fantastic. I am literally asking for that list.

Russian olympians should not be competing. As well as the whole country.

IDF soldiers, and Israeli olympians, absolutely should not be signing bombs and then competing.

As an aside, and not a “gotcha”, and not a whataboutism. Countries committing genocide should not be competing.

            Again,a sincere question.

What is your stance on North Korea, China, Rwanda or Syria also competing?

Wait why can’t Russians compete as a country, but israelis can compete as long as they’re not part of the IDF?

I agree its not exactly “the same” but that doesnt matter. There are indisputable massive violations of human rights and tons of warcrimes currently being commited. Thats plenty reason to exclude a country. Along those lines the active slavery nations US and China should be stripped of their flags and colors but we all know the powers that be wont allow that.

I know you saw a funny post that insinuated all criticism of the Democratic party being LLM bots, but since that post had zero likes and was not retraceable i have sad news for you: That post is very likely staged.

A: Many [nationality 2] are [nationality 1] who are not born there.

lol ok, you’re messing with us, right?? Every single person born in one country that moved to another country was born in their original country. That’s just pure logic.

            • Every single American in Palestine was born in USA, not Palestine.
            • Every single Korean in Japan was born in Korea, not Palestine.
            • Every single Argentinian in Brazil was born in Argentina, not Brazil.

Both Russia and israel are committing war crimes and therefore should both be banned from the Olympics.

What happened to all the liberals asking for Russia to be banned when they were committing war crimes?

Is it okay when israel does it?

I agree with the sentiment. Israel should not be permitted to be part of the Olympics, their athletes should only be allowed to compete under the neutral flag, like the Russian and Belarussian athletes. Or, alternatively, if the IOC decides to go “no politics at the Olympics”, Russia and Belarus should be permitted to compete again.

But going the extra mile to throw in a cartoonish evil smile and adding a random “USA” emblem? That’s kind of cringe. It’s detrimental to the message it’s trying to convey, unless I misunderstood the message, in which case it’s just dumb.

Chewed on the no politics at the Olympics comment for myself and I think where I landed was that the Olympics should be apolitical. I do think these countries should be punished for their actions, however, with the number and types of international destabilizing events increasing, I think this is a quick win for international cooperation. Something all humans can get behind. Doping obviously should be punished, but that’s an athletic issue.

Obviously the precedent of excluding countries has been set, so there’d be vitriolic pushback, but I think it would be worth it to have one majorly public institution (read: in popular awareness) that doesn’t judge, it just lets athletes compete.

      Thoughts?

I do like the concept of a “politics-free” sporting event, but then those events need to actually be free of politics. That makes things like partially unrecognised countries (Palestine, Taiwan, South Ossetia, Sealand) very difficult, though, so you’d end up with tons of micronations and disputed areas in the line-up, which immediately becomes politics again.

However, I don’t think the IOC is as neutral as they claim. Belarus being excluded for “invading during the Olympic ceasefire” or whatever they claimed was just a political move.

If you’re trying to be free of politics, you’ll have to stay free of politics every time. It’s all or nothing.

In that regard, I sort of respect the IOC for disciplining athletes that refused to compete with Israeli/Russian athletes. I can’t fault the athletes themselves, but at least the organisation seems to stick to its guns most of the time.

Honestly, I think I’d prefer it if there were no flags involved at all.

Many israelis are American nationalists and America provides israel the funds for their gear. There have even been pictures of American-israeli soldiers proudly wearing their American uniform in Gaza.

There appears to be a lot of cognitive dissonance when it comes to US complicity in the Genocide.

When it comes to any Houthi or Hezbollah topic invoking Iran is fine but the people funding israel can’t be named?

Any country with leadership that commits war crimes should not be allowed to compete. Israel, the US, China, doesn’t matter who. Also, any soldier working for a foreign army that is well known for committing atrocities should absolutely not be allowed to compete.

    Make it easy.

I get what the meme is saying, but IMO it’s not executed as clearly and well as it could’ve been.

Letting israel participate is a stunning display of hypocrisy to the world.

Even allowing one country to compete and not another leads to a slippery slope. Like suddenly we’re letting one slide while the other can’t compete based on some arbitrary rules? Sounds like favoritism and/or pay-to-play. The US pulls so many strings, it makes sense why Israel gets a pass when they don’t deserve one. It’s all about US influence.
