These non-voter apologists are just Trumpers in donkey clothing.

Notice they always have to neg him in a vacuum, because once he is juxtaposed to Trump, he looks like the best parts of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams put together.

They will say or do anything to suppress the vote.

Great, Biden’s not perfect, he is also a million fucking percent better than the alternative.

Why can’t we just express our disgust with the situation we’re in without being called a psyop? I’m going to vote for Biden. I’m still pissed that this is where we’re at. People were saying he was too old in the primaries before the last election and the Dems still shoved him down our throats and they’re going to do it again. It’s fucking bullshit. At the very least we need a candidate that’s young enough that they’re going to have to live with the consequences of their decsisions

Damn. I thought cultish thought-stopping was something we didn’t really have very far left of (what the U.S. calls) center. Would you like to see Democrats comparing Biden to Jesus like the MAGA crowd does Trump? The day the Democratic party becomes just as much of a cult as the Republican party is the day we have two literally fascist parties to choose between rather than a fascist party and still-a-major-win-for-the-fascists-but-at-least-not-quite-as-bad party.

Unless something completely unexpected (like a third party candidate actually having a chance of winning) happens between now and November, I’m voting blue no matter who in the general election. I think everyone else in the U.S. should as well, and I’ll tell them that. But nobody is served by liberals (and lefties) deluding themselves into thinking our choice is between anything other than two unequal evils.

What’s your reasoning here? Are you hoping that if you and I lie and say Biden’s going to fix everything, it’ll get more people to vote blue than if we tell them to vote for the lesser evil (which, to be clear, is the candidate with the D next to their name)? Because I really think the case could be made that the opposite is true. Or do you really think Biden is a perfect, infallable candidate?

The Democrats are digging their own electoral grave. It’s okay to preach about voting Biden on Lemmy, but it won’t count for anything when masses of real world voters decline to vote for him on account of the constant self-harming of the dems.

A half decent candidate would tank Trump.

So much “but trump worst!!” in this thread, oof. Vote for the Biden administration if that’s your only choice, fine. But stop pretending that Biden himself is voteworthy - he’s not, and is hardly capable of functioning normally for 6 hours out of the day at this point. Anyone paying attention for the past year who is engaging in honest good faith, should be able to attest to that.

It would be much better for Biden to step down while there’s still time, if you’re really so terrified of Trump and want to ensure a Republican defeat come November. Those who are pushing for Biden himself to stay in are the real threat to democracy.

Come on Dems, how many times do you have to be taught the lesson of Feinstein and RBG?! For that matter, why are you so insistent on politicians literally working into the grave? It’s a grotesque level of elder abuse, what’s being done to Biden right now. You all should be ashamed.

Great, so make your argument heard two years ago and not a few months before the election.

Otherwise, your arguments/debate is just supporting the no vote agenda that is being astro turfed by the right. Which means you are probably a subversive.

We’ve been making this argument for the last 3+ years, my dude.

No one who is saying all of this now was silent the last few years. I’ve personally been donating to, campaigning for, and bolstering the messaging of non-Mainstream-Dem candidates since I became disillusioned with Obama in my mid 20s. It’s not our fault y’all have been fucking ignoring us.

It’s like they completely ignore the fact that they have been completely ignoring us for 4 years and it’s just everyone else that’s wrong and if they shout a little louder everyone else will just finally do what they say.

It won’t work. They are the kind of people who got in the way of civil rights and left movements in fascist countries all over the world.

They won’t even be able to comprehend how they caused their own pain and go down blaming others that they never had a chance to control anyways.

We’ve been saying this shit since 2020. Those complaints just haven’t really been acknowledged by democrats until recently when they started running out of ways to plausibly deny it. They quelled it in 2020 by implying he would be only a 1 term president and, using the same existential threats as they’re relying on now, they barely eeked out a win that mostly came down to historic voter turn out.

Now, 4 years later, him being 800 years old is just the cherry on top. After a strategy that seems to have been just keeping him out of the spotlight, he and his PR team have been completely unable to effectively communicate what his administration has actually accomplished, and lets not forget about Palestine; it hasn’t even been a year since all hell broke loose on that issue and Biden’s handling of it has been wishy-washy at best, but whatever it doesn’t matter because the other guy is worse and uh-oh, we didn’t have a real primary to decide if there’s someone better out there. Too bad! Don’t care, didn’t ask.

Enough with this astroturfing shit, this is all plain to see for anyone paying attention. Biden staying in the race is actively hurting the chances of a democrat win, AND democrats down-ballot, and it’s nobody’s fault but the people that insist on him running against all possible voter indications that they won’t vote for him, just as it was with Hilary in 2016. They expected everything to fix itself and everyone to fall in line just like in 2020 because Trump is worse and now they’re shitting themselves because after their loss in 2016 and not nearly as much energy now as in 2020, they (or their donors) are starting to realize that voters might not be bluffing.

I say keep shitting on Biden, because it’s the only thing that seems to be getting democrats to slowly realize that unless they offer someone to voters that can win on their own merits against a competent opponent, they could actually lose to Trump. Again. Fucking embarrassing.

Yeah, about that…as others pointed out, this sentiment isn’t new, it’s just finally breaking through to establishment dems and those in the corporate media because it’s become impossible to deny any longer.

Personally, I’ve maintained that Biden isn’t well qualified since he got picked as Obama’s VP to appeal to closeted racists. I certainly campaigned hard against him in 2020 when he crawled out of his cave to steal the nomination from Bernie for the 2nd election in a row, for many reasons which happened to include risks from his extremely advanced age and ailing mental faculties. And now here we are, undeniable for all to see, when it actually matters and we need a strong candidate to defeat a fascist uprising in the US we have Biden, one of the only Dem contenders capable of losing to Trump.

Here is something for you to consider - a candidate, especially an incumbent, should be able to earn votes by exhibiting a strong and successful record of leadership accomplishments and capabilities. They don’t deserve votes by virtue of party membership - they have to earn it. Perhaps those who choose not to vote simply haven’t been convinced Biden deserves it. You don’t get to blame and shame voters in this situation. The only one deserving of blame here is Biden himself, for putting his ego above the best interests of the nation.

I’d prefer the cryptkeeper surgeon who is at least trying, as opposed to the orange ghoul who is there to harvest your organs for some spare change.

The problem lies with the hospital which allowed those to be the only options to begin with.

I for one would prefer to have my appendix removed by a competent surgeon just over 35 y.o., but until hospital staff management gets their shit together, there isn’t a whole lot one can do.

So if the support staff will do everything, why Biden?

Like would you feel comfortable seeing your pilot pound a fifth of whiskey and then snort a couple.lines of coke before walking on the plane?

      You do have a co-pilot there anyways…

Like, why not ask for a competent president in addition to the staff?

Especially when half the plane is insisting Jesus will take the wheel and we don’t need pilots and there’s a vote coming?

I feel better about him than the guy who wants to fly the plane into a skyscraper and who gets to pick a support staff that might help him do that. The airline has terrible staffing policies, but I don’t really get to change them in the 30 minutes before the plane takes off.

You do know you’re in a thread about Biden stepping aside, right?

          And the question was:

Why Biden instead of any other Dem

And I’m just getting responses about how Biden is better than trump.

Literally nobody here is disagreeing with that.

You’re just making the case that not even Biden supporters can explain why they think he has to be the nominee. At least not a reason that’s not easily disproven.

You do realize Biden has a staff of over 120 people with roles that include trying to control narratives on social media. I think some of these people are legitimate but I can’t help but think some of them are AI bots or staffers working for Biden trying to manipulate the conversations and discussions.

Biden is toast. The sooner Democrats, bots and staff members realize that the quicker we can energize the party with a different candidate that people actually like and that can engage in unscripted questions and policy discussions while speaking from the heart.

If this was twitter, reddit, or Facebook maybe. Especially if they werent always down voted.

But the chances of that happening on Lemmy is almost zero. It’s just a shit return of investment due to the small userbase and engagement.

How did you take Biden saying he’d only step aside if the Lord Almighty came down, and that when confronted with being behind in multiple polls by 7 points that he’s fine if he loses as long as he tried his best?
