A cat with half closed eyes may be looking smug, but in reality that face means you got a calm, content cat signalling they trust you. I mean, they may be smug, but it’s completely unrelated to the face they’re making. In other words, FDC Willard is a happy, loving (possibly smug but who knows) co-author in this pic.
That cat woke him up one day so he could continue writing his paper. He deserves his contribution.

He does look smug af. He knows what he did and that it was goddamn amazing and he is just waiting to be bathed in a flood of his favorite treats.
