I think solely focusing on usability for “power-users” single page makes sense. Nevertheless, I think web design seems to prefer many pages though I don’t know if that’s driven by user-friendliness or driving up the “click-through” rate.

Not answering your question, BUT I went with POE IP camera in the end. They one I got form Amazon has an IR blaster and filter so it can see in black and white at night. No good Open-source HW options for that as far as I’m aware. Access via an RTSP on VLC or MPV. I use motion to access web streams and motion detection

I use sway or i3 compositor to launch various streaming sites in Chrome or Firefox in kiosk mode. Also Kodi and Steam. I have shortcuts for these mapped to function keys on a combo keyboard touchpad. Works well as support for streaming services in Kodi is not comprehensive

Do these dreams require remote work? When we bought a house, proximity to public transportation and centers of employment were large considerations. How can that be resolved if some people working in “the big city” while others work remotely and others work in an exurban location?

I hear that. But my wife and I regularly debate about the role of family. I don’t know if it’s more American culture to view family as more “disposable”, e.g. they can be cut-off if toxic, etc. Being originally an (eastern) European, my mentality is that family (or blood-bonds to be dramatic) are always more serious than friends. To that end, I always thought having a large villa with multiple wings for multi-generational housing would be more appealing. My mother and wife (stereotype much?) don’t get along, so maybe a challenging proposition…

I like Kitty Graphics. I like graphics in the terminal for two reasons:

1. integration with MC (midnight commander) style directory browser to show previews of jpegs, pdfs, etc.
2. w3m web browser. I like being able to use that super-light weight webrowser when working/coding to keep me focused.

Reason (1.) works with Kitty. (2.) does not. (2.) is pretty esoteric so I think sixel will probably die out soon due to the user base?

I agree with your points. Though for me a big difference has been friends I made before ~25 and friends after 25. There is no way I would want to live anywhere near friends I made before that age. Being in my early thirties, who knows how I’ll feel 10 years down the line. Doing this communal living is a big commitment which might be hard to get out of.

• Ctrl + Alt + F[1-0] to access other TTYs which might still be responsive even if your desktop environment is unresponsive. Pull up top/htop and ID the problematic process to kill.
