Yeah for all his shortcomings Pat Gelsinger had the right plan for Intel. But the board wanted to see the numbers go up every quarter – long-term viability be damned – and he couldn’t do both that and push all of their advanced engineering directives, so something had to give (which in this case was Gelsinger himself).

Such a pity, too. Not long ago something like this would have ended even a powerful politician’s career. Dead. Full stop. But now, who can blame them? They’ve learned that there are no consequences for their hypocrisy and bad behavior, so why would they change?

The term “artifex” itself is from a book called Diamond Age by Neil Stephenson (it’s set in the same universe as his Snow Crash, which is where the word metaverse is from). In the story it’s a kind of honorific/title used to denote someone who has honed their craft and created something really exceptional. I, sadly, have not done that yet, but I am a compulsive maker of things (some of which are kinda ok). I’m currently a manager of people who make things at a software company. As for the logo, I just thought it looked cool, it was a 2-min photoshop job :) (my first few jobs was as an artist/graphic artist).

When this happens to me it’s usually a cloudflare problem. Sometimes it fixes itself in a day or two. A few times it has been broken for weeks and I’ve had to use a VPN to reach it.
