Is it a cleaning up simulator? I can totally feel that, I spent the morning cleaning up a closet full of stuff from my childhood…
EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•(Edit: Confirmed false) Hacker advertises alleged database of 89 million Steam 2FA codesEnglish0·2 months agoAlthough it is not officially supported you can do this: https://github.com/keepassxreboot/keepassxc/discussions/9591
I did it years ago (I would say 10+ years) and it works perfectly fine.
EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Game design question : how to make a "trapped" player character?English0·2 months agoIt made me think of indirect games like Black & White, Dungeon Keeper, The Settlers or The Sims. You can give orders but you cannot directly control your characters / units. If you limit the amount of orders, add a delay / the possibility for an interception or introduce areas where your orders can’t reach your hero it could do the trick.
EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How to send backups on multiple location?English4·2 months agoI think what he means is that if your backup is triggered from your main server and your main server is compromised the backups can also be attacked immediately. If the backup is requested from the backup machine you will at least have the time between the attack and the next backup to prevent the attack from reaching your backup machines.

EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is it useful to create your own Mastodon instance?English81·2 months agoIf you don’t plan on supporting this for at least a few years I would say no.
If you don’t expect to have a decent local userbase I would say no (local in the sense of a common interest, e.g. it might be useful to host an instance for all members of even a small company if you expect a decent amount of posts).
If it’s just you and your family (let’s be honest: it’s just you) I would say no.
The fediverse can federate, but if everyone is using their own server it’s just a fancy peer to peer network.

What they did with Flight Simulator was pretty spectacular…
EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Would you use a self-hosted, AI-powered search engine for your favorite sites?English65·3 months agoWhile almost everyone here seems to hate AI (maybe for the wrong reason, but who am I to judge) I like to have AI as it is able to provide answers a simple search engine cannot.
What I don’t see is hosting something like this myself. The managing of source and indexing them would take too much of my, my server’s and the web servers to be indexed energy (maybe I am wrong).
There are already good solutions (OpenWebUI with Ollama) that can be tweaked to almost do what you’re describing and the AI models get better every month, so I don’t think a custom AI search engine could keep up with it.

EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Which non-US domain registrar to use?English111·3 months agoI use INWX (based in Germany). Prices are consistently low (not always the cheapest, but fair). The web UI is a bit rusty, but it works perfectly and you can manage everything there.
That show is equal parts content and advertising. That is a bit too much for me…
EarMaster@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Your all-time favorite game? Let's discuss the best options!English0·4 months agoTransport Tycoon was fantastic and thanks to OpenTTD I still play it from time to time.
Gothic 2 is by far the best Action RPG of all time. Witcher 3 comes close, but still fails to surpass it in so many places.
Banished always gets me with it’s atmosphere. It feels cozy but at the same time you are close to complete annihilation. Oxygen not included hits the same mark, but also has a distinctive art style and humor to it which I love.
Stanley Parable (and it’s Deluxe edition) never fails to make me laugh. But it can get tedious sometimes…

Titanfall 2 is a great shooter and story game. Don’t bother with Titanfall 1 if you are only in for singleplayer as it is multiplayer only.
