JayzTwoCents has had it rough with Linux lately… join me as we review his latest Linux video for commentary and criticism.
These “reaction videos” are just a step above the bot slop videos. They contribute nothing of value and watching them helps to hurt the platform and overall quality of videos for everyone. But sure, I’m the “L” for expecting a higher standard.
I mean - kind of? I do agree a lot of “reaction” content is bottom-of-the barrel shit, but it’s not like this one is just making funny faces and going “woaaah, nonono, they didn’t!!” or something. He does use the video as a jumping off point for his own commentary, providing his own perspectives (those segments are also edited with cuts, showing this wasn’t just turning their webcam on and rambling without any evaluation later). Just roughly looking through the preview thumbnails hovering over the video progress bar, easily more than 50% is talking about topics in the reacted video without even the reacted-to footage on screen.
But who even cares that much about Jay doing a Linux video? Jay isn’t known as a Linux guru, or even a Linux novice. He makes Windows centric gaming videos around the latest PC hardware. Him doing a video on Linux is the same as Linus (LTT) doing a Linux challenge, if watching it knowing you’re not going to see anything of real value go ahead, but making a “reaction video” about it is just chasing clicks and should not be rewarded.
Just another L take.
Your argument is solid, you are absolutely a connoisseur of low effort videos.
Basically what you are saying is public commentary of foreign work should not exist or at least should not get any attention and unless you realize why this is bad, you can’t be argued with.
Not at all what I’m saying. I’m saying low effort “reaction videos” based on a video that is outside of a content creator’s normal subject matter expertise is a waste of time and should not be given the amount of attention everyone seems to be.
If this was actually public commentary I would have no issue, my issue is this video is no better than the bot/AI slop videos flooding YouTube.
That’s not what you were saying.
That’s what you were saying.
Yep, this is a low effort video that had no real need to be made except to get clicks. It’s like when Linus does his random Linux videos every couple of years, there is absolutely no value in making a “reaction video” about them. Nothing he says in those videos could be worth the creator’s time, OR the viewers time.
Your agreement is we need these low effort, low value videos, and I strongly disagree. You might as well make “reaction videos” about whatever stupid shit Mr. Beast is doing, same amount of value. Garbage in -> garbage out.
