    It’s just the way Lemmy is structured. If you want somebody to be a mod, you need to do it through a post/comment they’ve made in your community. Ask them to post/comment something and you can add them.

    Though I’m not entirely sure why LW needs a third ELI5 community.

      Because I created a community of ELI5 before I even knew they existed and thought it would be less confusion for people trying to join a community.

      If your instance has the Photon UI as an option, It’s possible to add and remove mods without an existing post in the community through the team menu.

    Have they commented or posted on the community? I have only ever been able to appoint modship to users who have commented somewhere on the sub.

      Um yes but one mod said he was on vacation and cound’t get to it until the 12th so I don’t know. And I don’t know how to add mods to my communities.
