The issue here is that you are comparing it to their business lineup, while it was a consumer product. Dell XPS (“Extreme Performance System”) is a line of consumer-oriented laptop and desktop computers manufactured by Dell since 1993. Wikipedia My understanding is that it was their premium consumer line sitting above the more entry level Inspiron line.
