I guess when you keep a game running for over 15 years, things become stagnant, and the people who the game were intended for are no longer there, so they start shifting and morphing the game into something completely different that’s not actually fun for the intended audience for the game… And then you have people like myself, actual true fans who try to come back to the game only to discover that the game is no longer anything like the way it used to be in the past.
The entire focus of the game now is basically to reach an optimal set of stats to start doing endgame content, and then begin a truly brain dead, monotonous grind of the same exact content over and over again in order to farm achievement points and challenge points. One of my closest friends is maxed in combat, has every single skill maxed, and complains how the game is so tedious and boring. But what is the thing that he spends most of his time doing? Literally farming the exact same boss 50 plus times a day because he’s trying to get it under a certain time span in order to complete a challenge that is in my opinion near impossible for an ordinary player… And he’s also trying to complete collection logs, basically a log which shows everything you have looted from bosses that are extremely challenging and require a huge amount of mental energy. So doing the same exact bosses over and over again in hopes of getting an extremely rare, almost impossible to obtain item. That is the “content” This game has to offer now for people, and the kind of stuff that they keep releasing…
Plus, knowing that the company was acquired by an investment company is also pretty saddening, they just raised the subscription price again, but if you look at Jagex profit, their profit has been rising at an exorbitant rate over the past 10 years. Profit after all expenses, that is. So it’s not like they’re losing money and have to up the subscription price, they’re just basically milking people for every dime that they have.
I really enjoy the game, and I play 2 accounts.
