It’s definitely ironic… the RPGers being the most popular kids on the campus, the way they interrupt the dance party to start gaming, the way the professor says “Marcie, you got to lay off the RPGs”, etc. But it’s masterful how they play it straight, and because their humor is dry they can turn “serious” easily, making the last scene so chilling: some people really believe this, and here is what they do.
